Neopentyl glycol, is produced by aldolization of isobutyraldehyde with formaldehyde in the presence of trimethylamine as catalyst to hydroxy pivaldehyde which is then hydrogenated in the presence of a copper catalyst to neopentyl glycol. 

Usage: Neopentyl glycol has a wide range of functions, among which the main role is to produce oil freeze alkyd resin, unsaturated polyester resin, flexible soft foam of polyurethane, insulated materials, print inks, synthetic plasticizers, aircraft lubricant agent and the like.
